Updates in Paediatric Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis and Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-associated Disease

چکیده

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is an increasingly recognized disorder, particularly in children. Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) the most common presentation of paediatric MOGAD. Children with ADEM should always be evaluated for MOGAD, as appropriate and timely treatment may help improve long-term outcomes.

Myelin-Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibodies Spectrum Disorders

Myelin-Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) is an adhesive molecule responsible for myelin sheath structural integrity and maintenance. Patients with spectrum of inflammatory demyelinating disease particularly in central nervous system are reported to have antibodies against this protein. Diseases such as multiple sclerosis, clinically isolated syndrome, neuro-myelitis optica (NMO) spectrum disor...

Tracing immature myelin in acute disseminated encephalomyelitis.

Inherent abnormalities of myelin have been suggested in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). We investigated myelin in acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) patients by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis for citrulline, a marker of immature myelin. A citrulline peak was observed in the normal appearing white matter of 7/15 patients and of ...

Clinical and neuroradiological differences of paediatric acute disseminating encephalomyelitis with and without antibodies to the myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein.

BACKGROUND Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies have been recently described in children with acute disseminating encephalomyelitis (ADEM), but the clinical and neuroradiological characterisation of this subgroup is lacking. OBJECTIVE To compare the clinical and neuroradiological features of paediatric ADEM with and without MOG antibodies. METHODS Clinical course, cerebrospi...

Intractable Hiccup in Demyelinating Disease with Anti-Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) Antibody

The patient was a 29-year-old man who presented with intractable hiccup at the onset of demyelinating disease. This was followed, in quick succession, by blurred vision, gait disturbance with myoclonic spasms and paresthesia in both legs, and the inability to urinate. Brain and spinal MRI revealed lesions in the parasagittal cingulate gyri, pulvinar, cerebral peduncles, superior colliculi, midd...
